Dear Parents and Carers,
We start each new term with renewed energy and enthusiasm and always look forward to seeing the children again. Starting the summer term with the school remaining closed is unprecedented. Everyone at Derwentwater is thinking of the children and families that make our school the special place it is. We are missing the children and hoping our community is well. For now, we must wait until it is safe to return so we can continue our learning journey together once more.
This term, we will be engaging with our community in new ways to ensure we maintain connections and motivation amongst our pupils. Further details around this will be shared throughout the coming weeks as we launch Google Classroom. A new 2 week cycle of home learning has been uploaded to the website so please let us know if a paper version is needed. These will be left at the school gate at dedicated times for collection.
From Monday 20th April, you will be able to access 'Bitesize Daily' which hosts daily lessons in English, mathematics, as well as other National Curriculum subjects such as science, history, geography, music and art.
The 20 minute shows are designed to target a specific age group from ages 5 to 14. Experts and teachers will be involved, covering what should be learned that day for the different year groups and key stages. The content of these lessons will be backed up by new videos, educational games and articles. There will be advice on how you can support your child at home as well as guides for pupils with SEN (special educational needs).
Reading Buddy and Times Tables Rock Stars
Access these online programs to find a range of books to read and enjoy and to keep on practising times tables. We would like to see the overall usage go up week on week.
We would like to share the wonderful news that Mrs Nicholas gave birth to a baby girl whom she has called Abigail – Abby for short. Both are doing well and are very happy.
Now that the Easter holiday is over and lockdown has been extended we hope families will continue to stay safe and healthy. We want to continue to emphasise the importance of well-being at this difficult time and that the most important aim is to help our children feel happy and safe. Home learning and shared links are optional and we expect families to choose what is appropriate for their own circumstances. Thank you for your continued support.
