Key Stage 1
In Key Stage 1, children learn to move confidently in different ways. They can perform a range of skills with some control and consistency. Children learn to perform a sequence of movements with some changes in level, direction or speed. Children can perform a single skill or movement with some control. I can perform a small range of skills and link two movements together.
Children also learn about the benefits of fitness and exercise during their time at Derwentwater. In Key Stage 1, children are aware of the changes to the way
they feel when they exercise. They can say how their body feels before, during and after exercise. Children can use equipment appropriately and move and land safely.
Through their time at Derwentwater, children will apply their skills across a number of disciplines, sports and activities. In Key Stage One these include: Multi-sports, invasion games, gymnastics, dance and athletics.
Key Stage 2
In Key Stage 2, children learn to perform a variety of movements and skills with good body tension. They can link actions together so that they flow in running, jumping and throwing activities. Children can perform and repeat longer sequences with clear shapes and controlled movement. They can select and apply a range of skills with good control and consistency.
In Key Stage 2, children can describe how and why my body changes during and after exercise and can explain why we need to warm up and cool down.
Through their time at Derwentwater, children will apply their skills across a number of sports and activities. In Key Stage 2 these include: Invasion games, athletics, orienteering, hockey, tennis, cricket, football, netball, basketball, rounders, tag-rugby and swimming.
