Our excellent nursery provision constantly strives for excellence, inspiring all pupils to grow and develop within our safe and creative environment as they embark on their educational journey.

We aim to develop a love for learning and creativity; and encourage our pupils to become independent learners through play and exploration as well as through fun, adult-directed activities.

The children have opportunities to practise and consolidate new skills and to apply their learning in different contexts, with a wide range of resources available both inside and outside, including our edible garden and nature trail.

Our highly qualified early years team provide the opportunities for our children to develop trust and resilience, nurturing confidence, self-esteem and the courage to embrace new challenges and take risks. Strong relationships are fostered with our families who are regularly invited in for stay and play sessions.

We pride ourselves on setting the foundations for the rest of our children’s school days; and ensure a seamless transition into Reception here at Derwentwater Primary School.

Leadership of early years is strong and maintains a tight overview of the provision. Leaders’ high aspirations and determination that all children should succeed ensure children’s good outcomes.
